Tryptophan to Lysine Ratio Economic Model for Nursery and Finishing Pigs

  • To aid nutritionists in deciding the optimum Standardized Ileal Digestible (SID) Tryptophan (Trp) to Lysine (Lys) ratio, Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition North America, Inc. and Kansas State University have collaborated to develop the Trp:Lys economic model for nursery and finishing pigs.
  • This calculator allows nutritionists to evaluate the optimum Trp:Lys ratio for a specific production system and local market conditions. It also allows nutritionists to compare the prediction equations against the current Trp:Lys ratio being used and the expected growth performance changes along with the opportunity cost of different ratios. This tool also takes into consideration if the production system is marketing pigs on a fixed time versus a fixed weight basis. Then, estimate the optimum Trp:Lys ratio and the expected change in profitability for each of the scenarios.
  • Ingredient values are based on tryptophan and lysine values from www.Evapig.com and prediction equations are based on Gonçalves et al., 2015 (see references tab).
  • By the accurate and timely optimization of the Trp:Lys ratio, pig production can be more efficient, profitable, and sustainable.
