You may be surprised. L-Tryptophan has become an economical option for lowering the crude protein level of your swine and layer feeds. Tryptophan is either 3rd or 4th limiting in NA swine and layer diets according to the phase of production and diet composition. A meta-analysis performed by Ajinomoto on the Trp:Lys ratio suggests we may be feeding tryptophan (A. Simongiovanni, E. Corrent, N.

November 7, 2011 – Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Group, Inc. (hereinafter called AANG, President: Hiroaki Nomura, Head Office: Tokyo, Japan), wholly owned by Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (President: Masatoshi Ito, Head Office: Tokyo, Japan) is planning to expand the animal nutrition business in the next 4-5 years. AANG will reinforce its production capacity of feed-use amino acids by adding 150 KMT L-Lysine, 80 KMT L-Threonine and 7 KMT L-Tryptophan, utilizing next generation innovative fermentation technologies. AANG will also develop a wider range of feed-use amino acid products for nutrition, and accelerate the development of these value-added products for its customers.

Ajinomoto Co., Inc., which has been a front runner of feed-use amino acids since starting its L-Lysine business in 1965, has always grown in anticipation of our customers needs all over the world. The growth was achieved by creating new values and demands of the feed-use amino acids by efficient production (i.e. highest level of technology) and the tailor-made technical marketing activities in each region for almost a half century.

AANG, by means of technical innovations and adapted regional marketing forces, will continue to lead the creation of the global market of feed-use amino acids. AANG seeks to contribute to more efficient use of limited agricultural resources for a growing global food demand, meeting the increasing demands of the livestock industry, to output more meat under efficient and environmentally-friendly productive systems.

AANG will be working on the following actions, year by year, step by step, region by region, in the course of the coming five years.

- L-Lysine production capacity will be increased gradually by 150 KMT, L-Threonine by 80 KMT including a third party alliance, L-Tryptophan by 7 KMT. Introduction of cutting-edge technologies will strengthen our cost competitiveness by the next generation technology innovations as “fermentation with less resource consumption” and “non food starch based fermentation”.

- A wider range of feed-use amino acids products will be offered on a larger scale to the world feed market, of which: L-Valine and L-Isoleucine, AminoGut®, a combination of L-Glutamine and Glutamic acid for intestinal gut function optimization, and AjiProTM-L, a rumen protected L-Lysine product, launched in 2011.

Ajinomoto will continue to reliably supply feed-use amino acids to its customers, supporting the growing needs of the feed, livestock and pet food industries.

The Ajinomoto Heartland, Inc. [AHI] offers amino acid analysis services to its contract customers. This service helps nutritionists track the amino acid content of key ingredients that are purchased and improve feed quality through improved formulation accuracy.

The AHI amino acid laboratory follows a number of standardized methodologies for the analysis of “Total Amino Acids”, “Tryptophan”, “Free Amino Acids”, “Crude Protein” and “Dry Matter”. The laboratory’s experienced chemists ensure that the highest level of accuracy is maintained. All assays, for all samples, are run in duplicate. Samples are re-analyzed in the event internal quality checks fail or if the sample analyses are “outside” of a given set of expected parameters.

To ensure conformity and accuracy of analyses, the AHI laboratory participates in the AAFCO check sample program, and an annual “Ring Test” with the five international laboratories of the Ajinomoto Nutrition Network.

The Ajinomoto Heartland amino acid laboratory is committed to providing the most accurate amino acid analysis to our customers. Contact us for more information: 773-380-7000.

Constraints within your formulation software may be unnecessarily limiting your formulation options and squeezing profitability. The following formulation constraints should be considered:

1. Release the minimum / maximum cap on the use of commercially-available amino acids; maximize their use

2. Formulate on a digestible basis, with ideal protein ratios

3. Provide a suitable range for metabolizable energy

4. Remove the minimum crude protein constraint

5. Remove the minimum fat constraint

To learn more about the effective utilization of amino acids in your feed, contact Ajinomoto Heartland, Inc. for assistance on setting up your formulations, and for additional data on their economic advantages.
